Instrumental in moving Gensler from zero BIM usage when he joined to the number one ranked BIM firm in Building Design and Construction Magazine. By 2014, over 730m of Gensler's annual revenues are executed using BIM technology, nearly twice that of the next largest firm.

Fulfilled role of Senior Designer on Myriad Gardens, winner of three AIA design awards, and the Urban Land Institutes International Urban Open Space Award. This was one of the firms first computationally designed and fabricated projects. The project was also recognized by Gensler peers through their people's choice award, and one of their annual innovation awards.

Along with a Gensler colleague received another innovation award for his work utilizing software application program interfaces to teach Revit to automatically build an intelligent BIM by reading the content of a Rhino model. This was used extensively in Gensler's Shanghai office to rapidly convert the design model of the world’s second tallest building into a much more detailed model for construction documentation and more realistic visualization.


Hillier

At Hillier Architecture, Mr. Bassett was responsible for implementing and maintaining several computerized systems used by a professional architectural staff of around 250 people located in 5 offices across the United States, including three CAD platforms and one internet based collaboration system, one RFI and Submittal Tracking system, and the creation of a tablet PC based punch list application utilizing handwriting recognition and audio commands as well as playing in active role in several of the firm’s major projects.


Revit

Director, Product Management; Director, Technical Sales at Revit Technology

At Revit Technology Corporation, Mr. Bassett was hired as one of two directors of Technical Sales, and was responsible for managing a team that provided all the domain and product expertise to the company’s sales and marketing activities. In this role, he developed standardized presentations of the company’s software for prospective architectural clients and financial investors. He produced and delivered new product launch presentations in the US, UK, Southeast Asia and Australasia including the initial launch of company’s product in March of 2000 in Boston. He was also heavily involved in the recruitment of its international distribution channel. Subsequently, during his twelve month tenure as a Product Manager, Mr. Bassett also played a key role in product development, focusing on projects that enhanced the technologies ability to act as a platform for other vertical market applications. Utilizing his prior experience, working with several software engineers, he was responsible for designing various aspects of the product either specifying or prototyping such strategically important components as a generic drafting engine, an innovative architectural site modeler, and a data query and thematic presentation capability as well as its proposed initial offering to the Facilities Management market. Operating in a sales capacity, in 2001 he was the only member of the US sales team to exceed his annual sales target (by 60%), doing so in a shortened 7 month period, and playing an instrumental role in landing the company’s largest account to date.


NextWave

Managing Partner at NextWave Technologies LLC.

Fund Raising, Business Development, Operations Management, and Product Development Oversight. As NextWave’s Managing Partner and Marketing Principal, Mr. Bassett’s efforts at NextWave were focused on raising capital, new product design & marketing, and GIS business development. He also spent several months writing code in order to complete the NextWave Technologies GIS product “Simplicity”, and then proceeded the prototyping of another product, “xPresent,” a real-time, peer-to-peer information exchange and drawing collaboration tool employing a unique implementation of transparent window technology. NextWave's assets were transferred to Revit Technology when NextWave partners were invited to join the start-up by its then CEO, a former McDonnell Douglas colleague


McDonnell Douglas

Various Roles at McDonnell Douglas Systems Integration Company and Successor Companies

Prior to the formation of NextWave Technologies, Mr. Bassett was the AEC (Architectural, Engineering and Construction) Product Manager for McDonnell Douglas Systems Integration Company and its spinoff, GDS Corporation, a Convergent Group affiliate. As product manager he spearheaded the initial ($3M+ spend) design and subsequent implementation of GDS’s second generation product suite. Among his other accomplishments at GDS, he was the product launch manager for MicroGDS®, a PC-based CAD software product now distributed by NextWave, and he produced the user interface design and documentation for GIS vertical market applications. As an Advanced Application Engineer, and subsequently Marketing Manager, for McDonnell Douglas Systems Integration Company and its successor company EDS (Electronic Data Systems), Mr. Bassett managed a team of software engineers and gained progressively responsible experience in technical consulting, management, sales and marketing

Architectural and Urban Design

Before entering the field of software development in 1991, Mr. Bassett completed a variety of land use planning and building design assignments including commercial office space, retail, hotel and conference center projects at Wallace Roberts & Todd, an internationally renowned Philadelphia-based design and planning firm. He worked as an Urban Designer for the planning and development of large-scale research, manufacturing and corporate campuses. Mr. Bassett also had primary GIS responsibility for the creation of graphic and tabular databases and for performing analysis for numerous regional planning projects including work for the Department of Defense, the Department of Interior, the State of Maryland, the State of New Jersey, and Monroe County, Florida. He received a Design Award from the Pennsylvania Society of Architects and an Honor Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects for his design for Liberty State Park in New Jersey.
